
Palo, Leyte - Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Rosita Acsibar of Barangay Pansaan, Maasin City is one of the contenders for the Regional Search for the 2018 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS).
BNS Acsibar was evaluated and validated on May 15-16, 2019 by NNC RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr., NOIII Nino Archie S. Labordo and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Corresponder Erna Sy-Gorne.
BNS Acsibar has been serving Barangay Pansaan for about twelve years now with a challenging malnutrition situation to a well-informed and more nourished community. In the past 5 years Brgy. Pansaan, 20 kilometers away from the main city ranked first in terms of underweight and wasting. However, with the perseverance and dedication of BNS Acsibar in lobbying nutrition programs and its implementation to the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC), the barangay has recorded zero wasting, stunting, and obesity of children ages 0-59 months from 2016, 2017, and 2018.

PALO, LEYTE – Fourteen Members of the Regional Nutrition Cluster (RNCl) in Eastern Visayas region attended a reorientation of functions during its 1st Quarter Regional Nutrition Cluster Meeting conducted on April 15, 2019 at the Department of Education- National Educators Academy of the Philippines (DepEd-NEAP) Training Center, Palo, Leyte.
Dr. Fidelita D. Dico, Health and Management Staff (HEMS) Manager of the Department of Health (DOH) shared and discussed the Department of Health Personnel Order No. 20017-249-A, entitled, Amendment to Department Personnel Order 2007-2492 dated 30 August 2007 regarding the “Creation of the Health Cluster with Sub-Clusters on Nutrition, WASH, and Health”. DOH Nutrition Manager Felecita Borata elaborated that in the order, the cluster shall coordinate with other development partners for food and non-food items, provision of nutritional requirements of the general population and vulnerable groups through nutrition assessment, infant and young child feeding, food assistance, management of acute malnutrition, and micronutrient supplementation.

Palo Leyte - Nutrition Officers of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) together with the Department of Health (DOH) - Health and Management Staff (HEMS) Manager or their representatives from the different regions of the country attended the Training of Trainers on Nutrition Cluster Management on 25-27, March 2019 at Microtel Inn & Suites in Davao City.
“Without data we cannot plan”, NNC Executive Director Azucena M. Dayanghirang expressed the importance of data during her opening message. Being equipped with information management tools will enable the local government to provide proper response and save livesespecially during and after emergencies, ED Dayanghirang explained.

Women holding multiple roles both in household and in their day jobs are having less or no time taking notes of their health and well-being. Their preoccupation to these responsibilities has made it hard for them to remain well-conditioned to continue juggling all the roles they have including dismantling systemic inequalities which hinder access to economic, social and political opportunities.
